The Story of Torso Tale

The story of Torso Tale begins like many others — two friends with a dream of building something of their own. Cliché? Maybe. But ours has its own twists. Even though we worked under the same roof for a whole year, we didn’t really know each other. Different departments, different routines, barely a conversation.

That changed when we both moved to same department. Working side by side, we connected. What started as casual teamwork slowly turned into a strong friendship built on respect, late-night ideas, and a shared hunger to create something. With time, that friendship grew into trust— the kind of trust you need to start a business together.

We didn’t have big investors or fancy backing. We started with just ₹50,000 and a belief in what we could build. Our first step? Exhibitions. No office, no big team — just two friends, a small budget, and the courage to put ourselves out there. That’s how Torso Tale took its first breath.

From strangers under the same roof to co-founders chasing the same dream — Torso Tale isn’t just a startup. It’s proof that the right partnership can turn even the most cliché beginnings into something real.

The name "Torso Tale" is the story of every woman, inclusive of all shapes, intellects, emotions, and interests. So, our mission is to encourage you - WOMEN. The "Torso", meaning "the main part of the body", is described in the "Tale", the story of the saree portraying every curve of the female anatomy. We are here to create comfort in style.

Priyangbada Barma

The Planner

After graduating in Fashion Designing from West Bengal, Priyangbada took a leap of faith, trading a 'safe' 9-to-5 for her passion with a business related to Art and fashion. She started a small clothing business, pouring her heart into it. But life had other plans. COVID hit, and she had to pause everything, stepping back into uncertainty. Yet, she didn’t let that stop her. Driven to bounce back, Priyangbada chose Pune as her fresh start — a place to reboot, refocus, and reignite her dreams. And she’s back at it, turning challenges into new beginnings.

Deepali Jambhekar

The Executioner

After completion of MSc. in Chemistry, Deepali joined in a coveted role at an MNC. Acting had always been her quiet love for which she moved to Pune, chasing that creative spark. That’s where life scripted its own scene. A meet with Priyangbada in workspace turned into long conversations about dreams bigger than jobs. Deepali was drawn to business, to creating something from nothing. From those conversations, Torso Tale was born. A chemist, an artist, an entrepreneur — Deepali brought all her worlds together. Not just leaving a 9-to-5, but redefining what her own story could be.

Let us try time travel! Let's move to the streets of older India with women wearing only saris. During that period, a sari held significant cultural, social, and symbolic meaning.

The way a woman draped a sari, showcased the flawless beauty of the six yards of fabric. The seamless wrap of a sari represents the infinite loop of life, and the wholeness within it.

A sari is a wrap of shield as well as, of comfort and reassurance. It is so graceful and yet so powerful. The pallu of a sari can wipe off all pain with its pure kindness and its strong identity.

These tales of saris and women wearing them have given birth to "Torso Tale".

The Process

The Magic of the Loom

Translating complex mental patterns into physical masterpieces, one thread at a time.

Sourcing the Finest Yarn

We begin with the purest natural fibers—whether it's breathable cotton, luxurious linen, or ethereal silk. The yarn is carefully selected, dyed using azo-free or natural colors, and prepared for the loom.

Setting the Loom

The warp and weft are meticulously aligned. For intricate designs like Jamdani, the weaver visualizes the pattern without a jacquard or mechanical guide, relying purely on memory and skill.

The Weaving

It takes anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks to weave a single TorsoTale saree. The rhythmic motion of the handloom requires patience, precision, and an immense amount of physical labor.

Finishing & Quality Check

Once off the loom, the saree undergoes a rigorous quality check. Stray threads are trimmed, borders are polished, and the fabric is softened to ensure it feels like a second skin.
